Second to None

Just some random thoughts

Yesterday made one week since I arrived in England. I'm spending the week now with Bryan Jr. in Nottingham. Will probably go and explore Robin Hood territory over the weekend, but for now, I'm catching up on some reading.

And what reading? The Bible, no less.

I have with me one of the new versions. They certainly don't have the dignity and assurance that the KJV has, but one must live with what one has. Anyway, it's always good to keep in touch with the old familiar texts.

Nottingham is a city with all the frills that are to be expected. We stay in a "close", which is actually a commune of habitations. The word "close" has lost its meaning, however. There is no closeness, no bonding, no give and take.

You pass a fellow human, most often, with not a word spoken, or just a nod of the head. I still haven't exchanged any "polite, meaningless words" with anyone, and I'm quite sure the situation won't change too much. The younger generation seems even more aloof, but they usually have their own agenda. Life goes on sedately, so I guess everyone is minding his own business.

I'm hoping to find a church to my liking somewhere close by, and probably meet some interesting people there. But that's for Sunday.

What a difference between old Blighty and India! Back home, everyone knows everyone else, or wants to know at least what's going on with everyone else. In place of the silence and quiet here, we have, at home, the heat, the dust, the noise and the crap. But that's part of the vibrancy, too.

Enough.

I hope you like the pictures I've added.

As always, catch me at
