A trip to Oxford
How many New Colleges are there?

Some time earlier this week, we drove into Oxford. I have little knowledge about the history of the place, except that it was--and still is--noted for its educational institutions, its cultural diversity and its steeples and churches. I'm sure New College, in Oxford, is pretty old, with an expansive campus, and cross-cultural students and staff. In my rovings, I came across Trinity College and a few others, but my interest was solely on New.
That's because of the one and only THE NEW COLLEGE, in Madras--now Chennai. My College was founded in the year 1951. When it's silver jubilee was celebrated, I was already a teacher in the PG Department of English. In the year 2001, I was a senior and also the Secretary of the Staff Association. Next year, in 2026, my College will be completing 75 years of exemplary service to the community and the nation, and I expect to be there for that. So my continuing closeness with The New College will continue, for a very long time, I hope.
If you, and I mean any of you, my dear Readers, can tell me more about the history of New College, in Oxford, I will be very grateful. In the meantime, let me give you another piece of trivia regarding The New College, in Chennai: I am, and still am, the only Anglo-Indian faculty member of the College. There's a distinct possibility that that will not change ever, but then, how many people still remember that Wilson Jones is the only Anglo-Indian to be the world billiards champion?
Think on these things, people.
Cheers.
